Why Gator Football Is the One Place We Throw the Financial Plan Out the Window
Here in Gainesville, football season doesn't really start until the Gators kick off.
And we couldn't be more excited for another season of Florida football.
We've gotten a little too used to saying this over the last few years, but hopefully this time really is different.
There's a new head coach, a fresh staff, and plenty of energy surrounding the program. Coach Jon Sumrall has brought a personality, intensity, and enthusiasm that has a lot of Gator fans—including us—excited about what's ahead.
Is this the year Florida turns the corner?
Of course it is.
And that's where college football and investing start to go in very different directions.
Investing Requires Discipline. College Football Does Not.
One of the things I love most about college football is that, for a few hours every Saturday, you get to throw logic, history, and reasonable expectations out the window.
You have an emotional connection to your team.
You believe.
And no amount of statistics will convince you otherwise.
That's perfectly acceptable for college football.
It's not a particularly good strategy for managing wealth.
When we're helping families make decisions involving significant assets, the objective isn't simply to pursue the highest possible return. It's to make disciplined decisions that coordinate investment risk, taxes, liquidity, spending, and long-term family goals.
Markets will inevitably give us reasons to become emotional.
There will be periods when a particular investment looks unstoppable. There will also be periods when headlines make you want to abandon a perfectly good long-term strategy.
That's when having a plan matters most.
A well-designed wealth strategy gives you a framework for making decisions when emotions are telling you to do something else.
But on Saturdays, All Bets Are Off
Gator football is different.
This is where we get to put the spreadsheets away.
Forget reasonable expectations.
Lead entirely with emotion.
And convince ourselves that this is absolutely the year.
So, with that in mind, there's really no reason to believe the Gators aren't winning the national championship.
We're calling it now.
Come Tailgate With Us
Football is also about community, and that's one of the things we enjoy most about being part of Gainesville.
Once SEC play gets underway, Clarity Wealth will be hosting tailgates along University Avenue for the home SEC games this season.
If you're heading to a game, we'd love for you to stop by.
Come enjoy some food, drinks, conversation, and hopefully celebrate another Gator win with us.
Investing may require us to remain rational.
Gator football absolutely does not.
Go Gators!
