The Story Behind the Friday Fireside Chat
Some traditions start with years of careful planning.
Others start with someone saying, “That’s a great idea… I’m stealing it.”
That’s exactly how the Friday Fireside Chat began.
After watching professional golfer Phil Mickelson host “Phil’s Friday Fireside Chat” on his media channel, the idea immediately clicked:
A short, conversational way to share thoughts, insights, and practical ideas with people on a regular basis.
And so, the Friday Fireside Chat was born.
From Written Market Notes to Video Conversations
Before the videos, the original version was much simpler.
It started as written emails sent to clients—market musings, financial planning observations, and thoughts about what was happening in the world at the time.
But over time, video became a better medium.
It allowed ideas to be shared:
- Faster
- More personally
- More conversationally
- And in a way that felt more connected
The goal was never to overwhelm people with complexity.
It was to provide useful financial ideas in “snippet form”—small conversations that could help people think differently about money, retirement, investing, taxes, Medicare, insurance, family, and life.
Several Hundred Conversations Later
Over the years, those short videos became something much larger.
Hundreds of Fireside Chats later, they evolved into:
- Financial education
- Market perspective
- Retirement guidance
- Storytelling
- And occasional humor along the way
More importantly, they became a way to stay connected with clients, families, and the broader community.
Practicing What Was Preached
One of the most meaningful parts of the journey is that the ideas discussed weren’t just theoretical.
They were lived out in real time.
Planning for retirement.
Navigating transitions.
Thinking long term.
Staying disciplined.
Building a meaningful life beyond work.
In many ways, the Friday Fireside Chat became both a teaching tool and a reflection of practicing the same principles being shared with others.
A Final Message
As this chapter closes and retirement begins, there’s gratitude for everyone who watched, shared, listened, and supported these conversations over the years.
And while the Friday Fireside Chat may continue with the remaining team, there’s one final thought worth leaving behind:
Be kind.
It’s something the world could use more of.
And sometimes, that matters just as much as any financial lesson.
